About the Founder
During his 25 years as a jet fighter pilot, Al Amatuzio (hence the name “AMSOIL”), recognized synthetic lubricant’s ability to stand up to the demanding operating conditions and temperature extremes jet engines encounter. He realized that cars, trucks, and other internal combustion engines could benefit from the same protection that synthetic lubrication provided to the engines of the jets he flew. This was the start of the history behind the best motor oil brand on the market, AMSOIL.
In the mid-1960s, Al Amatuzio began his quest to develop a synthetic motor oil for cars, trucks, and other internal combustion engines. After an intense period of research and development, he assembled a team of chemists and directed the formulation of the first synthetic motor oil in the world to meet American Petroleum Institute (API) service requirements in 1972.
AMSOIL 10W-40 Synthetic Motor Oil outperformed conventional motor oils on all counts, signaling a new age in lubrication science. From the start, it became apparent that this innovative product would play a role in engine performance and engine life, and in 1994 Lt. Col. Albert J. Amatuzio was inducted into the Lubricants World Hall of Fame for his pioneering work in the development of synthetic motor oil!
Al Amatuzio built his company on the same principles that defined his career as a jet fighter squadron commander – excellence, integrity and strong leadership. He started the company in his American home, blending and packaging AMSOIL motor oils himself, with his garage as the warehouse. Today, AMSOIL operates a total of nearly 700,000 square feet including one of the most modern, clean, well-equipped and well-engineered lubricant blending and packaging plants in the USA, the AMSOIL Center.

About the Company
AMSOIL’s corporate headquarters, manufacturing plants, and main distribution center, located in Superior, Wisconsin, USA, boasts state-of-the-art equipment and specialists in every facet of lubricant technology. In addition, AMSOIL has several distribution centers located throughout North America and the world to keep pace with the increasing demand for AMSOIL products.
These facilities cover a total of nearly 700,000 square feet. The AMSOIL administrative functions are centrally located and outfitted with the latest in communications and information processing equipment. The entire complex is staffed by approximately 300 employees.
The state-of-the-art lubricant production plant contains materials blending and bulk storage facilities, as well as high-speed bottling lines and packaging equipment. The main warehouse serves as the hub of a global distribution network; bottles, cases, drums, and totes bearing the AMSOIL label are shipped worldwide. Capacity is geared to meet projected market demands decades away!

Product Demand Forces AMSOIL to Increase Production Capabilities
In order to meet the growing demand for AMSOIL products, AMSOIL expanded their production and warehousing capabilities. In the Fall of 2004, AMSOIL purchased a grocery distribution warehouse and installed the industry’s most advanced blending equipment and packaging lines and constructed a new laboratory, maintaining the high level of quality demanded of AMSOIL synthetic lubricants. Conveniently located along the railway, this upgraded facility is now known as the AMSOIL Center.
The AMSOIL Center in Superior, Wisconsin is the hub of the AMSOIL distribution network. All AMSOIL products are packaged and shipped from this location. The AMSOIL Center is more than 400,000 square feet and sits on a 55.5-acre site. It houses AMSOIL Production and Packaging, the AMSOIL Central Warehouse, the Superior, WI Distribution Center, the AMSOIL Laboratory, AMSOIL Technical Services, AMSOIL Technical Sales, the AMSOIL Operations Department, 86 storage tanks, 4 packaging lines, 38 loading docks, 3.5 miles of pipe, 90 product transfer pumps and 85 employees.
